What is the status of the two LEDs on top of the device when connected to PC ?
If they don't light up at all the device was burnt, likely due to cable short circuit or PC USB port power surge.
If both LEDs are ON, the device either locked itself due to fautly USB port/cable, or was physically damaged tampered with.
