Your device is over a decade old, a lot could have happened to it.
Take a blank 4D carbon transponder and a blank ID48 (or 7936) and do autodetect of each.
If one or both don't detect, then the device was physically damaged and/or tampered with and is to be sent for repair through the distributor it was acquired from.
